domestic gas connection update: No LPG e-KYC, No Subsidy: Pending Connections Lose Benefit from Thursday
The LPG e-KYC deadline ended on Wednesday. Pending connections get no subsidy from Thursday and must buy cylinders at the market price.
Ananya soch: The deadline for completing e-KYC of domestic LPG connections ended on Wednesday. From Thursday, consumers with pending e-KYC will not get subsidised refills at the regular retail price. They will have to buy cylinders at the market price, without subsidy, when needed.
Cylinders at Market Price Without e-KYC
Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum had asked consumers to complete e-KYC in time. Now that the deadline has passed, connections with pending e-KYC cannot receive subsidised domestic gas refills at the regular retail selling price.
Major Challenges in Pending Connections
Several kinds of cases remain among the pending connections. These include connections registered in the names of deceased consumers, families who have moved to other cities, and records where mobile numbers and Aadhaar details do not match. These cases are a major challenge for the gas companies.
Connection Records Also Needed Updating
In such cases, e-KYC alone was not enough. Updating the LPG connection record was also made mandatory. Consumers were also given the option to transfer the connection to another family member.
How e-KYC Could Be Completed
Consumers could complete e-KYC through the gas company's website or mobile app. It could also be done at the gas agency or through the delivery staff who bring the cylinders.
How Much Subsidy Is at Stake
Under various schemes, domestic LPG carries a subsidy of roughly ₹200 to ₹300. Consumers whose e-KYC is pending will not receive this benefit.
