Board Secretary Devajit Saikia informed reporters after the meeting that current Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar's term is set to end next month, on October 5. With his tenure nearing its close, the board is expected to take a final call on the selection panel's leadership within the next 15 days.

Under Ajit Agarkar's watch as head of the selection committee, Team India clinched back-to-back T20 World Cup titles, a feat widely regarded as the highlight of his tenure. However, the controversy that erupted ahead of the Lord's ODI, when Rohit Sharma was reportedly left out of the team's future plans, has put his position under scrutiny. Matters took a curious turn when Agarkar was notably absent from a recent review meeting, fuelling further speculation.
