Magic of Theatre Comes Alive at Gandhi Nagar School — Students Discover a New World Beyond Textbooks
Theatre in Education — it sounds simple, but its impact runs deep. At Shaheed Lieutenant Abhay Pareek Government School in Gandhi Nagar, students are experiencing something they never imagined possible in a regular classroom. So what exactly is unfolding here that has everyone talking?
Ananya soch: A creative and well-structured theatre workshop on Theatre in Education is currently being conducted at Shaheed Lieutenant Abhay Pareek Government School, Gandhi Nagar, in collaboration with the North Central Zone Cultural Centre (NCZCC), Prayagraj, the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and the Education Department, Government of Rajasthan.
Conceived by NCZCC Director Sudesh Sharma, this presentation-based theatre workshop is being organised across the states falling under the zone's jurisdiction, with Rajasthan being one of them. As part of this initiative, the Gandhi Nagar school was selected to host the programme.
The workshop is being directed by city-based Theatre in Education Practitioner Gagan Mishra. It began on 3 July and will continue until 30 July this month. What makes it particularly special is its culmination — students will present a theatrical performance based on the curriculum of any chosen subject, turning textbook lessons into a live, engaging stage experience.
According to Gagan Mishra, theatre helps children build confidence, improve expression, and develop collaborative thinking — qualities that often go untapped in conventional classroom teaching. For students who have long been deprived of access to art education, this workshop is proving to be nothing short of a gift.
With the final presentation approaching, excitement is building across the school, and everyone is eagerly waiting to see how young minds bring their lessons to life on stage. The initiative is being seen as a model that could inspire similar efforts in other schools across the state.
