'It Wasn't Diljit, It Was the Story That Won Hearts' — Imtiaz Ali Reveals the Real Secret Behind 'Main Wapas Aaunga's Success

Ananya soch: Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali believes that the biggest strength of any film lies in its story and quality, not merely the presence of big stars. Speaking about his new film 'Main Wapas Aaunga', he said the film is not built around a major star, so it was natural that it did not open on a massive scale. According to him, good films often grow gradually, and a movie truly succeeds only when audiences connect with it and start recommending it to others.

Performing impressively at the box office across cinemas nationwide, 'Main Wapas Aaunga' is winning hearts on the strength of positive word of mouth. In this context, the director arrived in Jaipur, where he met audiences and expressed gratitude for the immense love and support the film has received.

Backed New Actors, Says Story Is the Real Power

On his decision to cast new actors in the film, Imtiaz Ali said his faith has always been in acting and storytelling rather than the commercial side of the film industry. However, he did acknowledge that Diljit Dosanjh's presence in the posters and promotions played a significant role in grabbing audience attention, noting that Diljit today holds a global identity as an artist.

Partition Tragedy Forms the Emotional Core of the Film

On including the tragedy of India's Partition in the film's backdrop, the director said conversations with people who lived through Partition opened new doors of understanding for him. He explained that no love story is born in a vacuum — it is deeply connected to its time, society, and history. To make the love story of characters Keenu and Jiya believable, depicting the real circumstances of that era was essential.

"Today's Youth Need Love and Trust the Most," Says Imtiaz

Sharing his views on today's generation, Imtiaz Ali said that despite living amid confusion and pressure, young people's desire for true love and deep relationships is stronger than ever before. The film features Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina in lead roles, and is being successfully screened nationwide under the Birla Studios Worldwide banner.
