In an exclusive conversation, Casting Director Girdhar Swami spoke about the film's casting journey, the selection of Shobhinaw Satyaa and why the project became a memorable experience for him.

Q: What made Hanuman Ansh a special project for you?

Girdhar Swami: Hanuman Ansh was different from a routine film project because its subject is deeply connected with spirituality, devotion, service and humanity. While working on the Casting, we had to look beyond appearance and acting skills. The artists needed to understand the emotional depth of their characters and bring that feeling naturally to the screen.

Q: What was the biggest challenge during the Casting Process?

Girdhar Swami: The biggest challenge was finding performers who could genuinely connect with the sensitivity of the story. In a film based around a spiritual personality, simply delivering dialogues is not enough. Body language, expressions and the overall personality of the actor also have to support the character. That became an important part of our Casting Process for Hanuman Ansh.

Q: Shobhinaw Satyaa's casting has become one of the most interesting aspects of the film. How did it happen?

Girdhar Swami: Shobhinaw Satyaa was initially associated with the film as an Assistant Director. When the requirement for the lead role changed, the team decided to explore his potential for the character. He went through an extensive audition that lasted around five hours. His acting, screen presence and understanding of the character were observed during the process. Eventually, he was selected to portray Neem Karoli Baba.

Q: Did you expect Hanuman Ansh to receive such a response from audiences?

Girdhar Swami: Whenever a film is made, the entire team works with the hope that audiences will connect with it. But the actual response is always difficult to predict. What was encouraging about Hanuman Ansh was the way viewers started discussing the film and sharing their experience with others. For a film like this, Word of Mouth can play a very important role.

Q: Reports have mentioned a ₹2 crore budget and Box Office collections crossing ₹100 crore. How do you look at this journey?

Girdhar Swami: If a film made on a limited budget receives such a strong response, it is certainly encouraging for the entire team. However, beyond the numbers, what matters is that the story is reaching audiences and creating an emotional connection. Since different collection figures can circulate, official figures should always be considered the final reference for Box Office performance.

Q: What do you consider the biggest strength of Hanuman Ansh?

Girdhar Swami: For me, the biggest strength is the combination of Story and Emotion. The film touches upon devotion, service and humanity. When audiences connect emotionally with a story, they naturally continue talking about it even after leaving the theatre. That connection is extremely valuable for any film.

Q: What is your biggest takeaway from working on this film?

Girdhar Swami: Hanuman Ansh once again reinforced my belief in the importance of Right Casting. When the right actor connects with the right character, the story feels more natural and convincing on screen. For me, Hanuman Ansh will remain a memorable experience because of this entire Casting journey.
