Jaipur to witness an evening of memories, performance and tribute on April 23
Ananya soch: Jawahar Kala Kendra will host the 15th Hemlata Prabhu Memorial Ceremony on Thursday, April 23 at 6:00 PM. Organized on the birth anniversary of Jaipur’s first woman theatre director and noted educationist Hemlata Prabhu, the event is open to all art lovers free of cost.
Reflections and memories to mark a meaningful beginning
The first session will feature IAS officer Sangeeta Gairola, who will share her experiences in a talk titled “My College Life and Its Impact.” She will reflect on Hemlata Prabhu’s influence during her student years and how her teachings continue to inspire generations.
“The Naked Cloth” to bring powerful social narrative on stage
The second session will present the play “Nanga Kapda (The Naked Cloth)” by classical dancer and cultural activist Priyakshi Agrawal. This research-based performance explores the history and psychology of clothing in India, delivering a strong message that a woman’s identity cannot be defined by her attire.
Hemlata Prabhu: A pioneer in theatre, education and social change
Born on April 23, 1920, Hemlata Prabhu dedicated her life to art, education, and social reform. She co-founded Kanodia Women’s College and played a crucial role in shaping women’s theatre movements in Rajasthan. A strong voice in social causes, she also led key movements advocating women’s rights and civil liberties.
