Jaipur’s Royal Heritage Shines at Met Gala 2026 with Sawai Padmanabh Singh’s Grand Debut
Raniwala 1881’s Exquisite Brooches and Buttons Elevate the Royal Look; Princess Gauravi Kumari Joins the Red Carpet
Ananya soch: Jaipur’s regal legacy took center stage at the globally renowned Met Gala 2026 held in New York on Monday, where His Highness Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh made a striking red carpet debut. Showcasing a seamless blend of tradition and contemporary elegance, he adorned an ensemble featuring intricately designed brooches and buttons by Jaipur’s celebrated jewellery house Raniwala 1881.
His royal look was accentuated by signature pieces including the ‘Elephant Brooch’, ‘Fish Brooch’, and handcrafted ‘Heritage Buttons’. These designs reflected a sophisticated fusion of Rajasthan’s traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics, lending his attire a refined, elegant, and unmistakably royal appeal. Accompanying him on the red carpet was his sister, Princess Gauravi Kumari, adding further grace to the occasion.
Speaking on the moment, Abhishek Raniwala, Co-founder and Creative Director of Raniwala 1881, expressed pride in seeing his creations featured on such a prestigious global platform. He stated that presenting Rajasthan’s art and craftsmanship internationally is both an honour and a matter of immense pride. He highlighted that Jaipur’s jewellery is globally admired for its intricate meenakari and traditional artistry, and being part of an iconic event like the Met Gala is a proud milestone for the brand and the city’s heritage.
Elaborating on the designs, he explained that the ‘Elephant Brooch’, inspired by the royal symbol ‘Gajraj’, signifies grandeur and strength. It features a precious tourmaline centerpiece, surrounded by diamonds and delicately set pearls, symbolizing a harmonious balance of power and beauty. The ‘Fish Brooch’, inspired by the Sanskrit symbol ‘Matsya’, represents life, prosperity, and continuous progress. Crafted with rich rubies, emerald detailing, and traditional polki work, it reflects depth and fluidity of life.
The handcrafted ‘Heritage Buttons’, inspired by the spherical form of the Earth, symbolize unity and balance. Rooted in Jaipur’s traditional jadau craftsmanship, these designs draw inspiration from the historic Johari Bazaar, developed under the vision of Sawai Jai Singh II. This legacy craft stands as a testament to royal patronage and generations of skilled artisanship.
Jaipur’s magnificent showcase at the Met Gala 2026 not only celebrated India’s royal heritage but also positioned its timeless craftsmanship on the global fashion map, earning admiration from across the world.
