Jannik Sinner Creates History with Rome Masters Triumph
World No. 1 defeats Casper Ruud in straight sets, completes Career Golden Masters at just 24
Ananya soch: Jannik Sinner etched his name into tennis history after winning the 2026 Italian Open title in dominant fashion. The World No. 1 defeated Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-2 in the Rome Masters final to claim one of the biggest victories of his career on home soil.
With the win, the 24-year-old Italian completed the prestigious Career Golden Masters, becoming only the second player in history after Novak Djokovic to win all nine ATP Masters 1000 titles. Sinner also became the youngest player ever to achieve the milestone.
Dominance on Clay Ends Biggest Doubts
Playing in front of a packed crowd at the Nicola Pietrangeli Stadium, Sinner looked in complete control throughout the final. Ruud tried to challenge with aggressive rallies early in the opening set, but Sinner’s precision from the baseline and powerful serving proved too strong.
The second set turned into a one-sided contest as the Italian star raised his intensity and sealed the title in straight sets. The victory was especially significant because clay courts had previously been considered the weakest surface in Sinner’s game.
This season, however, he has transformed into an almost unstoppable force, already winning Masters titles at Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo before conquering Rome.
Perfect Momentum Ahead of French Open
After lifting the trophy, an emotional Sinner described the moment as a dream come true. Italy President Sergio Mattarella was present during the final as fans celebrated a historic night for Italian tennis.
Experts now believe Sinner enters the upcoming French Open as the clear favorite. His consistency, mental strength and all-surface dominance have established him as the most complete player on the ATP Tour.
