Jaipur’s Suruchi Sharma Selected for Prestigious Cannes Scholarship Under WIF India Initiative

Ananya soch: Jaipur-based filmmaker Suruchi Sharma has brought pride to Rajasthan after being selected for the prestigious scholarship program under Women In Film India (WIF India) in collaboration with the renowned Marché du Film at Cannes. The initiative has been launched by Academy Award-winning producer Guneet Monga Kapoor to support emerging women filmmakers from across the country.

Suruchi Sharma has been chosen for the impACT Lab cohort, where selected scholars will participate in mentorship sessions, exclusive workshops, and curated industry interactions during the Cannes Film Festival in May 2026. She will join filmmakers and producers from around the world to explore international cinema opportunities and collaborative filmmaking practices.

Jaipur Talent Earns National Recognition

The selection process witnessed entries from across India and was reviewed by an eminent jury panel comprising Smriti Kiran, Tahira Kashyap Khurrana, Sucharita Tyagi, and Rucha Pathak. Suruchi Sharma from Jaipur and Jasmin A. Singh from Mumbai were selected for the impACT Lab program, while Archana Borhade and Molshri Singh received scholarships for the Producers Network.

Suruchi said that the opportunity is not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Jaipur’s creative community. She shared that the workshops will focus on international co-production opportunities, impactful storytelling, sustainable filmmaking practices, diversity in cinema, and strengthening global creative collaborations.

Focus on Meaningful Cinema and Global Collaboration

The impACT Lab workshops, scheduled from May 13 to May 18 at Cannes, are designed to empower emerging producers and filmmakers through intensive learning sessions and discussions with global experts. The platform encourages meaningful cinema that promotes inclusion, representation, and social impact.

Suruchi added that interacting with experienced filmmakers and understanding the global film market would help her bring stronger narratives and fresh cinematic perspectives from Rajasthan and India to international audiences.

The initiative is being seen as a significant step toward strengthening the presence of Indian women filmmakers on the global stage while opening new creative avenues for emerging talent from cities like Jaipur.
