Ananya soch: To mark the birth centenary year of Vichitra Veena maestro Pt. Gopal Krishna Sharma, the Gopal Krishna Strings Foundation organized a Classical Music Evening titled 'Shastriya Sangeet Sandhya Baithak-2026' at the Rangayan Auditorium of Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) on Friday. The evening saw Dr. Chandrima Roy Mazumdar on Sarod, Ustad Saeed Zafar Khan on Sitar, and Pt. Akshat Sharma on Slide Guitar present Raag Shree, Peelu, and Surdasi Malhar, winning over the audience with their masterful renditions.
All three artists began with Alaap, Jod, and Jhala, followed by compositions in Vilambit, Madhya, and Drut Laya, presented with remarkable finesse. Their command over Tantrakari and Gayaki Ang left the audience deeply impressed. The evening opened with Akshat Sharma's Slide Guitar rendition of Raag Shree, followed by a sweet, melodic take on Raag Peelu set to Dadra Teentaal, filling the auditorium with warmth.
Dr. Chandrima Roy Mazumdar then showcased the elegance of Raag Surdasi Malhar on the Sarod, reflecting years of deep musical practice. Renowned Sitar player Ustad Saeed Zafar Khan of the Delhi Gharana mesmerized listeners with his rendition of Raag Jaijaiwanti, bringing the distinct flavor of his gharana to the stage. The evening also featured intricate technical elements like Gat, Taan, and Meend.
Tabla maestros Ustad Akhtar Hasan and Dinesh Khinchi provided steady, powerful accompaniment throughout, adding to the vibrancy of the performance. Foundation Director Swati Sharma opened the event by sharing the organization's musical journey and later extended her gratitude to all attendees. The evening stood as a beautiful tribute to India's rich classical music tradition, leaving Jaipur's music lovers with memories to cherish.
