Winged Thief Shocks Degana: Pigeon Flies Away with Gold Chain Worth ₹1 Lakh, Creates Panic in Sarafa Market

Ananya soch: An unusual and astonishing incident unfolded on Thursday in the Sarafa (jewellery) market of Degana town in Nagaur district, Rajasthan, leaving traders and locals stunned. In a bizarre turn of events, a seemingly harmless pigeon turned into a “winged thief” and flew away with a gold chain worth nearly ₹1 lakh from a jewellery shop. The incident triggered panic in the market and remained the biggest talking point of the day.

The incident took place around noon at a jewellery shop located in Rameshwar Plaza. According to information, a goldsmith named Sameen Bangali was working in an upper-floor room of the shop, crafting a gold chain weighing approximately 7 grams. The window of the room was open, and a few pigeons were sitting nearby, a common sight that did not initially raise any concern.

However, within moments, the situation took an unbelievable turn. As the artisan’s attention shifted briefly, one pigeon suddenly swooped in, firmly grabbed the freshly made gold chain in its beak, and flew off. Before anyone could comprehend what had happened, the pigeon was already airborne with the valuable ornament. Based on current gold prices, the chain was estimated to be worth around ₹1 lakh.

Eyewitnesses said that while flying, the pigeon held the chain in such a way that it appeared to be hanging around its neck. The bird then landed calmly on a nearby rooftop, adding to the shock and disbelief of those watching below. News of the incident spread rapidly, and within minutes, the Sarafa market was in chaos. Jewellery traders, shopkeepers, and locals rushed to the spot, all eyes fixed on the so-called “winged thief.”

Several people climbed onto rooftops in an attempt to catch the pigeon, but the bird remained alert and evasive. As people approached, the pigeon took flight once again. During this second flight, the gold chain slipped from its beak and fell onto a nearby roof. This moment brought immense relief to the traders. A quick search was conducted, and the gold chain was recovered safely within a short time, preventing a major financial loss.

Although the chain was retrieved, the incident sparked serious discussions about security in the Sarafa market. Traders pointed out that gold and silver prices are already at record highs, making vigilance more important than ever. However, a pigeon lifting a gold chain from such a height was something no one had ever experienced before.

The incident quickly went viral on social media, where users reacted with humor and amazement. Some jokingly commented that pigeons have now become “gold hunters,” while others called it a “wonder of nature.” Many users also advised jewellery shops to install safety nets or grills on windows to avoid such unexpected incidents in the future.

Jewellery traders stated that while thefts have occurred in the market in the past, this was by far the most unique and surprising case. Following the incident, several shop owners reviewed and strengthened their security arrangements. Though the pigeon eventually flew away, it left behind an important lesson — even the smallest negligence can lead to significant losse
