Bike Taxi Regulation Rajasthan: Rajasthan High Court Closes PIL on Bike Taxi Rules After New Government Policy

Ananya soch: Bike Taxi Regulation Rajasthan: The Rajasthan High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation seeking the formulation of guidelines for bike taxi operations in the state.

The division bench comprising Justice P.S. Bhati and Justice Vineet Kumar Mathur noted that the state government has already introduced the Rajasthan Motor Vehicles Aggregator Scheme 2025, which includes provisions regulating bike taxi services.

Concerns Raised by Transport Union

The petition was filed by the Jaipur Metropolitan Three-Wheeler Drivers’ Union, which argued that thousands of motorcycles were being used as taxis without clear regulatory guidelines. The petition claimed that private motorcycles with white number plates were being registered and used commercially by companies for ride services. According to the union, this practice violated existing transport rules that permit only commercial passenger vehicles with yellow number plates to operate as taxis.

Another concern raised was that if an accident occurs involving such bike taxis, insurance companies might refuse claims because the vehicle is registered as a private vehicle rather than a commercial one.

However, during the hearing, the state government informed the court that the Aggregator Scheme 2025 has already addressed these regulatory issues. Accepting this submission, the court ruled that the petition had become irrelevant and disposed of it.
