Rajasthan Government Announces Major Initiatives for Pottery Artists, Employment and Skill Development
Ananya soch: In a major boost to Rajasthan’s traditional pottery and clay art sector, the Shriyade Mati Kala Board has announced the establishment of a Mati Kala Centre of Excellence at RIICO Bichoon in Jaipur. The decision was unanimously approved during the 6th Governing Board meeting held on May 12, 2026, and is expected to open new avenues of employment and modern skill development for pottery artisans across the state.
The board stated that the pottery sector has received its highest budget allocation in the last two years, surpassing the total support provided over the previous decade. Highlighting the achievements of the board and various government welfare schemes, the book titled “Mati Rajasthan Ri” was officially unveiled by the Chief Minister.
45 Artists Honoured with ‘Mati Ke Lal’ Award
To recognize excellence in traditional clay art, the board honoured 45 outstanding artists from different pottery disciplines across Rajasthan with the prestigious “Mati Ke Lal” award. The artists received medals and certificates of appreciation for their contribution to preserving the state’s cultural heritage.
5000 Electric Wheels and Machines to Be Distributed
Under the Budget 2026-27 announcement, the board will distribute 5000 electric pottery wheels and clay kneading machines to artisans. The initiative aims to improve production quality, increase employment opportunities and enhance artisans’ income.
The board also announced that Artisan Cards will be issued to pottery workers across the state through awareness camps and special drives.
Focus on Training, Education and Promotion
As part of its long-term vision, the board plans to train 100 pottery instructors this year at specialized centres outside Rajasthan. Proposals will also be sent to the state government to provide scholarships and scooter schemes for children of pottery artists.
In addition, pottery fairs and exhibitions will be organized under MSME policy to strengthen marketing opportunities and promote eco-friendly clay products among the public.
The board also appealed to citizens to place water pots for birds and small animals during the extreme summer season, emphasizing that pottery art is deeply connected with environmental conservation and social welfare.
