Rajasthan Cracks Down on Transport Mafia: GST Evasion Worth ₹85 Crore Unearthed in Massive State-Wide Raid

Ananya soch: In one of Rajasthan’s biggest enforcement crackdowns on the goods transport sector, the Commercial Taxes Department (CTD) launched a massive state-wide search and survey operation targeting alleged GST evasion networks linked to transport companies. The coordinated action, conducted on Friday, covered 33 transport firms and associated premises across 10 districts of the state.

The operation was jointly executed by all three Enforcement Wings of the department along with eight Regional Zones. Raids were carried out in Alwar, Bikaner, Churu, Nagaur, Bhilwara, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Sirohi, Jaipur and Jodhpur, including offices of transport companies and residences of their promoters.

Preliminary Tax Evasion Estimated Above ₹85 Crore

According to officials, the investigation has already revealed suspected tax evasion exceeding ₹85 crore in the preliminary assessment itself. Authorities believe the figure may increase substantially after a detailed examination of seized documents and digital records.

The operation began at 9 am and continued past midnight at several locations. Officials stated that the action was initiated to investigate the large-scale misuse of Input Tax Credit (ITC) in the goods transport sector.

Fake GST Credit Chain Exposed

During the searches, investigators reportedly uncovered a major modus operandi being used by transport operators. Companies were allegedly issuing GST invoices at 12% even for items where the applicable tax rate was NIL.

Officials said the illegally generated ITC was then used to offset genuine tax liabilities instead of paying the required cash component to the government. This created a fake credit chain and caused significant loss to the state exchequer.

Every Truck Movement Now Under Department Surveillance

The department has now intensified surveillance across the transport sector using advanced data analytics. Toll plaza data, fuel consumption records, vehicle ownership databases and E-Way Bill tracking systems are being integrated to identify suspicious activity.

Authorities warned that vehicle owners transporting goods without valid E-Way Bills could also face strict legal action under RGST and CGST provisions.

Department Promises Fair Yet Strict Enforcement

Officials clarified that all search proceedings were conducted in a professional and non-intrusive manner. Relevant informal records, digital devices and supply-chain documents were inventoried and seized as per legal procedure.

The Commercial Taxes Department reiterated its commitment to a transparent, data-driven and fair enforcement mechanism while maintaining zero tolerance against organized tax evasion.
