India’s Digital Health Revolution Hits Historic Milestone: 100 Crore Health Records Now Linked With ABHA

Ananya soch: India’s digital healthcare ecosystem has achieved a landmark breakthrough with more than 100 crore health records now successfully linked to Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission through Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA). The achievement marks one of the biggest milestones in the country’s journey towards creating an integrated, paperless and patient-centric healthcare system.

Implemented by the National Health Authority under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has witnessed remarkable expansion over the last 15 months. The number of ABHA-linked health records has doubled from 50 crore in February 2025 to over 100 crore in May 2026, highlighting the rapid adoption of digital health services across India.

Government and Private Platforms Fuel Massive Growth

Officials said the success of ABDM is being driven by strong participation from government health schemes, state digital platforms and private health technology partners. More than 450 public and private digital health solutions have already integrated with the ABDM ecosystem, enabling seamless exchange of medical records across hospitals, clinics, laboratories and healthcare providers.

ABHA acts as a unique digital health identity for citizens, allowing them to securely access and share their medical records through a consent-based system. The platform ensures privacy and security while reducing paperwork and improving healthcare accessibility.

Uttar Pradesh Leads, Rajasthan Among Top Contributors

Among the states, Uttar Pradesh emerged as the top contributor with over 15.03 crore ABHA-linked health records. Andhra Pradesh followed with 11.95 crore records, while Bihar, Rajasthan and Gujarat also recorded major progress with more than 7.37 crore, 6.32 crore and 4.77 crore linked records respectively.

Major government programmes contributing to the milestone include CoWIN, PM-JAY, eHospital, eSushrut, RCH Programme and multiple state health platforms such as Uttar Pradesh’s eKavach and Rajasthan’s iHMS.

‘Citizen-Centric Healthcare System Is the Goal’

Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal said the milestone reflects the growing trust and adoption of digital healthcare systems in the country.

He stated that ABDM has been designed to place citizens at the centre of the healthcare ecosystem by enabling secure and consent-based sharing of health records. According to him, the initiative will make healthcare delivery more accessible, efficient and patient-friendly in the coming years.

India Building One of the World’s Largest Digital Health Ecosystems

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is currently building a robust digital public infrastructure using platforms like ABHA, Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR), Health Facility Registry (HFR), Unified Health Interface (UHI) and National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX).

Experts believe that crossing the 100-crore mark is not just a technological achievement, but a major transformation in how Indians will access healthcare in the future — faster, smarter and completely paperless.
