CM Bhajanlal Sharma’s ‘Raj-Mamata’ to Transform Mental Healthcare Across Rajasthan

Ananya soch: In a landmark step towards strengthening mental healthcare, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has introduced the ambitious ‘Raj-Mamata’ (Rajasthan Mental Awareness, Monitoring and Treatment for All) programme. Under the vision of ‘Viksit Rajasthan-2047’, the state government is now focusing equally on mental and physical well-being, aiming to ensure “Mental Health for All.”

Announced in the 2026–27 state budget, the ‘Raj-Mamata’ initiative has gained momentum with preparations for its effective implementation beginning on the occasion of World Health Day. Alongside this, the Central Government’s National Tele Mental Health Programme, ‘Tele-Manas’, is being successfully implemented across the state, offering timely psychological support to citizens.

These initiatives are designed to address rising concerns such as stress, anxiety, and depression, while providing emotional resilience and mental support to people across Rajasthan. With these progressive efforts, the state is steadily moving towards becoming a model for mental healthcare services in India.

Centre of Excellence in Jaipur and District-Level Strengthening
As part of this transformative initiative, a ‘Centre of Excellence in Mental Health’ will be established in Jaipur. The facility will be equipped with advanced counseling services, tele-medicine infrastructure, and expert-led treatment solutions. This will ensure that even residents in remote and rural areas can access specialized mental health consultation without geographical barriers.

Furthermore, ‘Mental Health Care Cells’ will be set up at every district headquarters across the state. These centers will provide accessible counseling, treatment, and rehabilitation services locally, significantly improving outreach and early intervention capabilities.

Tele-Manas: A Lifeline in Times of Crisis
The ‘Tele-Manas’ programme has emerged as a crucial support system for individuals battling mental stress and emotional distress. As of April 15, 2026, more than 71,000 people in Rajasthan have availed counseling services through toll-free helplines 14416 and 18008914416. The service has been operational in Jaipur since May 2023 and in Jodhpur since November 2023, ensuring continuous assistance to those in need.

Special Focus on Youth Mental Health
Recognizing the growing mental health challenges among young people, the ‘Raj-Mamata’ programme places special emphasis on youth well-being. Dedicated counseling sessions will be organized in educational institutions to address issues like academic stress, anxiety, and suicidal tendencies.

Additionally, grassroots awareness campaigns are being strengthened by training health volunteers and ASHA workers. These frontline workers will play a key role in identifying early symptoms of mental health issues and facilitating timely intervention and treatment.

Through this comprehensive and inclusive approach, the Government of Rajasthan aims to create a supportive ecosystem where mental health is prioritized, stigma is reduced, and every individual has access to quality care. The ‘Raj-Mamata’ initiative marks a significant step toward a healthier, more resilient society.
