My Cannes Look Was a Tribute to ‘Operation Sindoor’ and Our Brave Soldiers

Ananya soch: My Cannes Look Was a Tribute to Operation Sindoor and Our Brave Soldiers: Actress Ruchi Gujjar has become a national talking point for her unique tribute to India’s Operation Sindoor on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. Speaking at Hotel Days in Jaipur, while sharing her experience of Cannes and her film Life, Ruchi said, “Attending Cannes for my debut film Life has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life. To pay tribute to Operation Sindoor on an international platform, I painted my hands red to symbolize Sindoor, and incorporated Rajasthani elements such as the Rajputi Chakati and the traditional Bolada into my look.”
She added, “For me, that platform wasn’t about fashion, it was about heartfelt emotion and respect. When I wore the necklace featuring the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it wasn’t just a piece of jewelry; it was a symbol of the deep respect I feel for a leader who has made India self-reliant, confident, and globally admired. My red-colored hand represented Sindoor, a tribute from me to Operation Sindoor and our brave soldiers. I come from a small village, Mehra Gujarwas in Khetri, Rajasthan and my journey has been deeply shaped by my culture, my roots, and the values I've inherited from the Indian Army. The traditional lehenga and jewelry I wore were not just garments, they were my identity. I believe when fashion has purpose, it becomes more than just appearance, it becomes a movement.”
‘Life’ A Film That Highlights a Critical Social Issue
Indian cinema took a proud step onto the global stage at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival with the screening of Life, a socially impactful film. Based on sensitive topics such as suicide and abortion, Life features Ruchi Gujjar in the lead role of a woman caught between societal judgment and personal trauma. Her performance has deeply moved audiences and critics alike, thanks to its emotional intensity, sincerity, and powerful screen presence.
Supported by a compelling performance from Nishant Malkani, and written by M. Salim and Tanu Pednekar, Life is more than just a film, it is a voice for the unheard and a mirror to society.
